A Legacy Behind Every Ring
When you choose Bachendorf's, you inherit more than a ring — you inherit a tradition.
For four generations and over 100 years, the Bock family has been creating fine jewelry. It began with Abram Bock, who learned the trade as an apprentice in 1900 in St. Petersburg, Russia, where he married the daughter of his jewelry instructor. In 1928, Abram moved to Memel, Germany, where he built a flourishing jewelry business.
In 1947, Abram, his son Harry, and his daughter Ali came to Dallas, where Abram's four brothers had already settled before the war. A year later, in 1948, Abram opened A. Bock Manufacturing Jeweler — now Bock Jewelry Co., Inc. — in a downtown Dallas storefront, beginning with jewelry repair. As the business grew, he started selling diamonds, drawing on his Belgian connections from before the war.
His son Harry graduated from Washington University in St. Louis with a major in retailing, joined his father's business in 1955, and discovered a special gift for the purchasing and marketing of diamonds — making his first buying trip to Belgium in 1962. Harry took over when Abram passed in 1968, and in 1977 he opened the first Bachendorf's store. He ran the family business until his passing in 2010.
Today, Harry's son Lawrence carries the business forward, upholding the Bock family values of loyalty, honesty, and quality that have always been its foundation — values that will carry the Bachendorf's tradition forward for generations to come.
