Fabergé, famed for its extravegant jeweled Easter eggs, was started 1864 by Gustav Fabergé in St. Petersburg, Russia. In 1872 Peter Carl Fabergé took control of the company. He and his goldsmiths designed and constructed the first egg in 1885. It was commissioned by Czar Alexander III of Russia as an Easter surprise for his wife Maria Fyodorovna. It had great success until the WWI. Peter sold the Fabergé Co. and it closed a few years later. The brand was revived in 1989. Now they design, eggs, enameled jewelry, and works of art.
